Our new exhibit space, 146 Morrill Science Center, is now open! The inaugural exhibit, Where Life Lives, explores terrestrial and oceanic life zones and introduces visitors to species uniquely adapted to live in a variety of habitats from mountain tops to the deep ocean. The exhibit will be open Monday-Friday, 9:00-5:00, during the academic year.
Fall 2025 will feature "Strange but True," highlighting our most unusual specimens.
The Ray Ethan Torrey Botanical Greenhouse at the South end of the Morrill Science Complex is open 9:00 am-3:00 pm Monday to Friday, visitors are always welcome. Tours can be scheduled for alumni, teachers, small school groups, and garden clubs. To make an appointment, please contact:

The UMass Entomology Collection “Insects in the Hallway” features an extensive collection of live and preserved specimens. Of special interest are the exhibit’s live insects, which include: hissing and giant cave cockroaches, North American beetles, tarantulas and crickets. The preserved collection features insects from both the Pioneer Valley and around the world. Open During Regular Classroom Hours Located on the Second Floor of Fernald Hall.
Temporary Exhibits - Specimens from our collections are regularly featured in temporary exhibits on campus. These include interdisciplinary exhibits located in the foyer of the Integrated Science Building, seasonal pop-up exhibits, and unique collaborations with the University Museum of Contemporary Art and the Kinney Center for Interdisciplinary Renaissance Studies.

The Fernald Club
The Fernald Club
Formed in 1925, this student-run club maintains the insect exhibits located on the second floor of Fernald Hall and holds outreach events for UMass and the surrounding Amherst area. Members also collaborate with the UMass Permaculture Garden to construct and maintain housing for local pollinators.
